Welcome to day whatever of quarantine. Being at home for weeks now makes you think of all sorts of things to do that you never thought you would. Like cleaning up your attic lol! I went up there last night and organized it after years. We mostly have old Christmas decorations from a couple years ago, so it was not such a big task to do. After that, I went on to see what else is there that needs to be cleaned but everything seems all organized, for now at least.
In the meantime, my daughter was getting bored and was trying to find ways to have some fun. My husband suggested perler beads. I wouldn’t want to go out and get some so thank God for Amazon. We wanted something that was going to be shipped either same day or the next day but what was I thinking. Everyone and their moms are probably ordering a ton from Amazon right now as we speak too. The latest they could deliver it was 2 days, which is not bad.
After searching for the perfect one, we found this kit. It’s such a great deal for how many items it comes with.
Here’s a closer look on what it looks like and what it came with.
The kit includes over 30,000 beads with 5 colors are glow in the dark, (2) plastic tweezers, different designs and patterns, different shapes of pegboards, ironing paper and a small plastic of materials to turn your project into key chains. I also bought a super pegboard separately for larger projects. It also included a large ironing paper.
I like this kit because it comes in organized and sorted by colors. The container have removable dividers as well. The case itself is stackable and has easy locks on the side. It comes in a case with handles, which makes it easier for little ones to carry. Although, I should warn you, it tends to get heavy and some of the locks on the side can get unlocked easily. So make sure you double check them first before you carry them. The dividers do come off, so make sure that you have them secured first before you dump your beads or they will get mixed up with other colors.
Now for the fun part, making some cool designs!
My daughter and I decided to make something easy and small for our first try. She wanted to make the bear and I chose the heart. The instructions that came with it was all over the place but since I made them before, I knew the process well enough.
- Gather your materials (pattern, pegboard, beads, tweezers and iron)
- Place your pattern under the pegboard.
- Using your tweezers, simply pick up the color bead and place it on the pegboard. Continue doing this until you have your bead design.
- When done, set your iron to medium heat.
- Grab your ironing paper and place it on top of the bead design. Make sure that your beads underneath the paper didn’t come off the pegboard.
- Place your iron on top of the ironing paper. Let it sit for 15-20 seconds. You can always repeat this step for the beads that didn’t adhere.
- Let it cool for about a minute then peel off the ironing paper. Peel your finished beaded design and turn it over.
Here are our finished products and other designs that we made too. You can be as creative as you want with these. My daughter made the duck, the Pokemon ball, unicorn and cat with no pattern.
Speaking of pattern, you can also make your own out of a photo or drawing. You can upload your photo here and choose what size of pegboard you have and click “create pattern“. This website is super easy to use and they’re FREE. They also have the latest bead color and numbers.
Side note: Sometimes the color output of the design isn’t the exact shade on the original photo. You can always refer back to your original and color correct your beads.
We spent the rest of the day yesterday making so many designs and it was a great bonding with my daughter too. If you are looking for some fun things to do with your kiddos during this quarantine period, this is a definite hit.
